1897, Austrian businessman Emil Jellinek traveled from his home in Nice
to buy a car from the " Daimler " factory in Cannstatt in Germany. On
his return to the French Riviera, and after testing his new car, Emil
Jellinek decided to participate in a competition of local tourism with
its new car under the name "Mercedes" which comes from the nickname of
his daughter then aged 13 .
Realizing the business potential acquired by the new car, he not only placed an order for another 36 , but also achieved market exclusivity to sell the car " Daimler Motoren Gesellschaft " in several countries , Gottlieb Daimler also agreed to sale under the name "Mercedes" and it was a success for the plant.
In 1924 , the company " Daimler " merged with the company "Benz" as the " Mercedes- Benz " and not " Daimler- Benz " to maintain respect for the brand "Mercedes" .
