The hippo secretes two types of unique acid called "hipposudoric acid" and "norhipposudoric acid." These two acids are strong enough to minimize the growth of bacteria on the skin of the hippopotamus, they also act as a sunscreen to the skin of the animal because they absorb UV rays which destroy the cells of the skin.
The hipposudoric acid is bright red while norhipposudoric acid is bright orange. Both merge with milk hippo to give this pink color.
